Monday, June 14, 2010
The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is thrilled to partner with the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) and the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS) to present "Sydney Meets Sydney" at the 2010 Song Summit in Sydney, Australia from June 19-21.
Launched at ECMA 2010 - the "Sydney Meets Sydney" partnership initiative between the like-named cities was established to facilitate new reciprocal business and touring/ export opportunities for both Atlantic Canadian and Australian artists. While in Sydney, Nova Scotia, for the 2010 East Coast Music Awards, Festival and Conference, Australian artists Dead Letter Chorus and Fergus Brown teamed up with Canadian-born artists Carmen Townsend and Two Hours Traffic for a series of collaborations and music showcases.
From June 19-21, East Coast artists Carmen Townsend, along with Two Hours Traffic will travel to Sydney, Australia for the 2010 Song Summit, featuring individual and collaborative performances on Sunday, June 20 at the Home Nightclub at Darling Harbour. This will coincide with their first extensive Australian tour (June/ July) and supporting label releases for both acts.
The 2010 Song Summit - Make Music Matters Conference and Music Market - will gather a full spectrum of the Australian music industry including local and international songwriters and music industry experts for three days of networking, educational and business sessions and the Song Summit LIVE - a nightly program of live music performances.
"The "Sydney Meets Sydney" initiative is an excellent opportunity for East Coast artists to develop new markets and touring networks and is a specific example of business taking place from the ECMA 2010 International Export Buyers Program," says Shelley Nordstrom, ECMA Export Manager. "It has provided a reciprocal business and touring infrastructure and is extremely exciting as groups such as Two Hours Traffic will be touring Australia with label buddies Dead Letter Chorus performing 17 shows in support of their label new release, Territory."
Sally Howland, director of APRA/Song Summit says that the synergies that present themselves with the 'Sydney Meets Sydney' partnership are undeniable. "Sometimes, you stumble upon a relationship and a match that is so perfect you'd think it had been created deliberately. The timing for such a tailored cross-cultural collaboration is ripe and we are extremely pleased to have partnered with the ECMA in delivering this inaugural and unique initiative."
Su Hutchinson, executive director with the ECMA agrees fully and believes a project like 'Sydney Meets Sydney' is just the beginning of something incredible for our members, born from a musically collaborative and innovative partnership. "We are committed to continuing to develop a longstanding relationship between our two markets which clearly demonstrates a potential for such resounding success for our artists internationally."
